Biographies:
Don Ryun Chang was born to diplomat parents and grew up on five continents – Asia, Europe, North and South America, and Africa. He was educated at the University of British Columbia in Canada, the Parsons School of Design, and received his MFA from the California Institute of the Arts. Don then worked for several organizations such as Nara Advertising, Design Focus in Korea, Steiner & Co. in Hong Kong, and was Creative Director for the Infinite Group. Don founded DC&A in 1991. The company merged with Interbrand in July 1999 and has developed acclaimed identities for the 2002 FIFA World Cup, Korea Telecom, Shinhan Bank and Korea Tourism Office.
Don became the first president of the international council of graphic design association from the continent of Asia in 2007.
He has received numerous international design awards from prestigious organizations such as the Brno and Warsaw Poster Biennale, and the Type Directors Club of New York. Don is currently professor at Hongik University and is the former Dean of the Graduate School of Advertising. Don is the author of five books including “How to Succeed in Business with Design and Brand Media Innovation.”
James Goggin set up his graphic design studio, Practise, in 1999 after completing an MA in Graphic Design at London’s Royal College of Art. Practise works across various media: from books, posters, typefaces, identities and stationery to exhibition design, signage, websites and motion graphics. James was art director of progressive music magazine The Wire between 2005 and December 2007. From August 2009 he will be based at Werkplaats Typografie in Arnhem, Netherlands, coordinating, teaching and working on selected commissioned projects.
Rick Valicenti is the founder and design director of Thirst/Chicago, a communication design firm devoted to art with function and serves a collection of clients whose refined and enlightened design sensibilities yield rewards in the experience of creation. Rick was recently awarded the American Institute of Graphic Artists (AIGA) Medal in 2006 for his sustained contribution to design excellence and development of the profession. Rick is a member of AGI (Alliance Graphique Internationale) and was awarded the 2004 AIGA Chicago Chapter Fellow. His works are included in the permanent collection of The Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum and the 2006 Triennial, Design Life Now.
