Overall survey was a very positive experience for faculty and students. More chances to critique with time less of a factor.

Less of a buzz than in the past which made the days much calmer and quiet.

ALL students should attend both days to see as much of their colleagues wort as possible.

Might be better to have Thesis I students show BEFORE Thesis II, and not drag the presentations out opver two weeks. Timing and scheduleing is difficult in any event.

1. Thesis I presentations separate from Friday Saturday is excellent and gives an elevated support for the Thesis product.

A suggestion is to have all Thesis faculty recommend their top Thesis student projects to be presented on the same day/evening. This will provide less up and down on subject and presentation.
Similar to "Thesis on Thursday" roundtable presentations.

Some Thesis projects are more suited to a trade show format with posted work -- similar to survey.

Early semester work should be shown on Friday and upper level work shown on Saturday. This makes for a more focused presentation and critique of students at the same level.
Having students sign up and list their semester's courses allows for them to be placed accordingly. It requires more planning, but his will avoid empty panels. Maybe sign up can now be done online with a check-box format.

Limit students who may need three panels to a minimum. Remember editing is important in order not to be repetitive. Students needing three panels an be placed where panels can be build as a tryptic.

Overall a move in the right direction. Great job students and faculty.

In the past, the culmination of 15 weeks of work in one ten minute presentation for three faculty felt sadistic. The new longer format felt reasonable. Both students and faculty seemed more relaxed.

The quantity of presentors per room must be be balanced.

Faculty should not step in and speak for their students; I witnessed this more than once.

I think that thesis presentations were a great experience to all students. It was an absolutely positive change even though we were exhausted to prepare the presentations.

I would love it if we had decent printing available during survey--at cost of printing or free. For two weeks various printers on the 7th floor were out of paper. Having a dependable large format printer for survey prep would not only decrease student stress but also help our department practice more environmentally-friendly practices. I still find the printing issues baffling.

I agree. I missed viewing thesis presentations because I had class or was too busy preparing for survey. I would love for thesis presentations to take place after general survey.

I also had a good experience with survey. Was great to get more than one group's comments.

There's a lot of complaining about not getting to see other students work. There's too many of us for this to be all day events. Some students in this program really need to learn how to manage their time better. If you're showing in the afternoon and need to see a friend's stuff in the morning, stop whining and figure out how to make that happen.

In terms of not being able to see other people's stuff DURING the block of time you're in, maybe there could be a 20 minute break in the middle so people could mingle? I know some groups get really into critiques, but surely we could put some simple time caps on the discussions. It doesn't have to be completely open-ended timewise, does it? Make a one hour and a half first round then a break.

I too liked the suggestion of getting rid of foam core. I saw some nice alternatives like black paper. The foam core is too expensive and it is old-fashioned. Full size poster presentations could be nice too.

I agree with Tom in that every student in a digital class should be showing digital work on laptops or using the projector. Further..It's 2009. Any job any of us get will center on the computer. Unless you want to buy a letterpress and open a little shop. Not a bad idea, right? Otherwise...let's get real. There will NOT be endless amounts of cutting up paper on the job.

The massage and buffet at the end party was really nice. Great stuff.

I was in school at 6am and came in to work in the cutting room. You had to knock to be let in. Maybe the security guy was elsewhere.

If you are requesting wine to be served at events, then I am sorry to tell you that we cannot serve alcohol at the premises. It is Pratt's rules because it comes with other responsibilities such as carding people and making sure they don't over do it blah blah

It is all about planning the off-campus after party.

By the way, did you stay for survey's after party?

I know there was a lot of hesitation about survey this semester but in my opinion the majority of the changes were quiet positive and really gave the students the chance to shine and get more feedback. Also, I appreciated the lack of craziness. This semester, we had a very relaxing survey!

Thanks for putting the Theses' books out in the lobby for everyone to look at.

I agree with other students about having the works up for the day but I understand that we would have to sacrifice space and sanity.
